About the project

Casa Cena (Scene House) takes its cue from a simple object: the monocular—a single-lens viewer used to capture moments. Much like this device, the house is organized around a single image. The bedroom, living room, and office all face the same view: a lake with the Serra do Mar mountain range in the background. Located in one of Piraquara’s oldest gated communities, the entire residence was designed to frame this landscape.

The main house, a single-story structure, ensures accessibility for its residents well into the future. Beyond the view, the floor plan accounts for factors such as sun exposure, wind direction, and local environmental conditions—most notably the high humidity typical of the Serra do Mar region. Concrete, perforated architectural elements, and expansive glass panels open the interior spaces to the surrounding landscape.

The project is being developed in three phases. The first involves an auxiliary building—initially featuring two bedrooms and a barbecue area—which serves as a home for the family while the site is being developed. This is followed by the construction of the main house; once completed, the auxiliary building’s bedrooms are removed, transforming the space into a gourmet area. The interiors were designed from the outset to accommodate both configurations.
